With this EP I wanted to make instrumentals that were interesting enough to stand on their own, but also leave space in case an artist wanted to record over top of it, as well as for potential sync use (with video, images) so kind of tried to have a cinematic flare as well. Just exploring my own sound really, life's an adventure!
Music is very therapeutic for me, while making this EP I was battling with some mental health struggles and listening to mixdowns and these works in progress as I went for walks in my neighborhood really were cathartic for me.
I hope they may be cathartic for others as well and bring calm and peace of mind. Peace & Love! - LZR BMZ
All glory belongs to God! Thank you to my parents, my family and my friends, shoutout to my guy Palmeeze, go check his dope raps out everywhere music is streamed, shoutout to Whinny Blue & D Money, Daniel S. (Next Best Thing!), shoutout to all the Youtube producers who share their knowledge, tips, insights, tutorials, etc... to name a few: Andrew Huang, Badhabit, Ed Talenti, Austin Hull (Make Pop Music), Simon Servida, LLB, prodbyJack, Kyle Beats, Jay Cactus, Curtiss King, Ave Mcree, Will Darling (EDM Tips), Alex Rome, Navi D, Weaver Beats, Busy Works Beats, Nathan James Larsen, Big Z, Marc Jovani
I started rapping with one of my best friends in 7th grade (who later became known as Whinny Blue!), we mostly just wrote down lyrics and rapped in our rooms. 2001 senior year I saw Acid Pro Hip Hop software at Best Buy. My mom had just bought me a HP desktop for college in the fall. I used the software to put loops and instruments together and the built in monitor mic to record some raps. I still have that first song I made and the remix I did! Oh yeah, there was a remix! Haha
I technically "produced" a 5 track demo EP with Whinny Blue, putting loops together and then we rapped over them. Our setup developed over time and Blue had more space at his house for our first real studio setup downstairs in the basement with a real microphone and space for us to be creative. We ended up making several albums/mixtapes together, but I started to drift more into the producing side. I purchased an MPC, Korg M3 and a Korg multitrack recorder and started focusing on making beats. I had dabbled with Fruity Loops (now FL Studio) but got swayed by purists saying that hardware and analogue equipment was the "real authentic sound".
Around this time I also moved from NY to California, and I began this new adventure of a life in California while the beat making had stagnated and become overwhelming trying to do everything using analogue equipment. I ended up selling the equipment and stepped away from making music for a while.
Until Fall 2022 my longtime homie Palmeeze reached out to me and said he had started rapping again. We had recorded rap songs together in the past, and he even rapped on some of my earlier rudimentary homemade beats. I started off buying an MPK Mini which came with free beat making software. The availability of knowledge on Youtube allowed me to really learn music production and beat making from those who were more experienced than I ever was able to do in the past.
I became hooked on sonics and next thing you know, here we are, just released my first official EP instrumental! Oh yeah, and I'm using FL Studio now, wishing I had just given it more of a chance back in the day but it is what it is! Shoutout to FL Studio gang, although I got love for Ableton and Pro Tools gang too (or any DAW)! Haha
Thanks for reading if you made it this far, PEACE AND LOVE!
Feel free to reach out and say hey!
I'm also open to collaborations with other artists or producers :-)
